Sophie and the Take That tour

Sophie is out on the road for her biggest tour ever! Touring right on up to Christmas, Sophie is supporting Mark, Jason, Gary and Howard on the UK stretch of their European tour.

Here's what Sophie has to say about the tour:

I'm really excited on lots of levels. I've heard that they're really nice boys and that there's a really nice atmosphere with them. Also because it's 34 dates, it means I can get really settled in to it and be really comfortable and familiar, it's always nice to play the same venue more than once.

My favourite when I was younger? I think after the band disbanded, Gary Barlow came in for quite a lot of criticism; I actually had quite a soft spot for him. I thought everyone was a bit mean and so I'm happy that they've had this comeback because it shows he's had the last laugh.

Solo tour rescheduled for March

Sophie is about to hit the road for her biggest ever tour, supporting Take That on their massive tour across the UK. Those of you who are going, make sure you leave a review in the forum.

But we can now announce that as soon as she gets back, Sophie will be hard at work, as her Greatest Hits will be released in March and she will then take off on her own solo tour across the country (check out the calendar for the dates). To buy tickets, click here.

For those of you with tickets for the original dates, they will still be valid for the relevant venue, just bring them along on the night.

For those who are unable to attend and would like a refund, please, contact your point of purchase.

Sophie's Greatest Hits: it's official!

Source: www.fascinationrecords.com

Things have changed a bit since Sophie Ellis-Bextor released her first single with theaudience - 10, yes that's 10 (10!) years ago. We've waved ta-ta to Top Of The Pops, everybody started wearing jeans that are too small and people now sit in darkness in the name of energy efficiency. To celebrate Sophie's consistency in these times of change we are preparing for the release of her Greatest Hits album which will feature all of her singles plus some very special newies. Sophie's been working with Calvin Harris and Cathy Dennis (amongst others) on new material - a new single will follow the Greatest Hits on November 19! Until that time dear 'blog' reader, take a refresher course in some of our favourite Sophie EB moments:
  • The red hair/massive headphones combo in Music Gets The Best Of Me. If someone held her red hair and massive headphones with a gun, we have no idea which we'd make number one.
  • The boot stomp in Murder On The Dancefloor. Obviously.
  • Get Over You on TOTP. The wedding cake was a classic. Remind yourself by consulting You Tube immediately.
  • All of that mental cup-shifting in the Catch You video. If she came round for dinner, we would buy in some plastic cutlery.
  • The spoken word in Mixed Up World. It’s nice to know that when Sophie isn't harassing crockery, she can find the time to make us feel a bit better about 'stuff'.
  • Without pop stars like Sophie, getting from Monday to Friday would be a lot harder. Here's how pop pulled us through last week.
  • Monday: Mondays are horrible - fact. Thank goodness for our friends the Sugababes, who made our Monday a whole lot better by charting impressively with the Spencer & Hill remix of About You Now.
  • Tuesday: We watched Skins, of course. In case you hadn't noticed, Skins features loads of amazing songs. If you'd like to hear amazing songs again and again, or would like to hear amazing songs but aren't keen on watching adolescents romping about, you can buy the very good official soundtrack here.
  • Wednesday: We went to see Feist play some of her songs. We love 1234 so much that we are seriously contemplating buying an iPod Nano in every colour. A nice man with an accordion going by the name of Bob Wiseman was supporting.
  • Thursday: For once somebody posted something newsworthy on a myspace bulletin. Lorraine (nice boys with nice songs from Norway) informed us they will be playing their first gig for a while in November, and we can't wait.
  • Friday: Clumsiest man in pop, Paul Steel, broke his foot on stage. Some might say it's mean of us to put this in our weekly highlights. We'd better stick a Get Well Soon card in the post.
Until next time, don't let any pointy-shoed indie folk step on your precious pop toes.

Tour update

Great news. Sophie has been confirmed as the 'Special Guest' on the forthcoming Take That tour, which kicks off on 11th October in Belfast. She'll perform a live set which will feature all her hits and more.

Because of this, it means Sophie has to postpone her own UK tour this year. However, the good news is that she'll be taking to the road for her own headline tour early next year. New dates will be announced very shortly. If you have a ticket for the old tour, you can exchange it when the new dates are announced or apply for a refund from the point of purchase.

Sophie says:

Hi everyone, I am so sorry I've had to postpone the tour. I hope you understand that it was proving incredibly difficult, if not impossible to do both. I'm thrilled Take That have asked me to tour with them, they're lovely boys and their tours are second to none. It's a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity any girl would be a fool to turn down! So I promise you that when my own tour happens next year, it'll be bigger and better than ever! Thanks so much for understading. Much love,
Sophie

Light Out London campaign

You may have been hearing about it on the radio but this year Capital FM is running the 'London Lights Out' campaign where they are encouraging you to switch your lights out between the hours of 6pm and 9pm on the year's longest day 21st June.

Sophie feels so strongly for the cause that she's become an ambassador for the event! The environment is very close to her heart and she says, "I don't think it's something you can ignore anymore, you can't argue it, you can see the effects of climate change and we all have a responsibility to do something about it."

Sophie will also be dropping by this Monday breakfast time to the Capital FM studios to talk more about the campaign, so for those of you in London make sure you tune in to 95.8FM on Monday morning. But you can also listen on-line!
